Why did Clear Review feel the need to create a platform to measure engagement?
Here at Clear Review we care about more than just monitoring the performance of employees, we’re passionate about creating a solution in which staff are supported to thrive in their roles. We should all know by now that staff with higher work life well-being are more productive, staff who are less stressed are less likely to take leave and those who are engaged with their role are less likely to leave to find another job.
So by helping organisations to increase the well-being of their staff, as a result we also impact on that organisation’s productivity levels, as well as hopefully improving the day to day working lives of staff. And by creating a better work environment for your staff you can also improve retention and attract top talent.
My Mindspace was designed to provide organisations of all kinds with the ability to track their staff’s well-being and engagement, whether you’re a small legal firm or a large retailer. To create the platform we worked with the help of work psychologist, consultant and author, Ian MacRae, in order to ensure we were asking the best possible questions to get accurate results.
The development of My Mindspace focused on reliability, validity and utility. In other words, My Mindspace was designed to be a consistent predictor of workplace well-being, a robust predictor of desirable workplace outcomes (like productivity and low turnover intention) as well as practical and efficient for integration into the continuous performance management platform — Ian MacRae Work Psychologist.
How does the My Mindspace platform work?
In 2019 we ran five studies with approximately 1100 working people in the UK to test out dozens of items and find the specific wording that would be optimised for structural and predictive validity based on the Utrecht Work Engagement model. — Ian MacRae Work Psychologist.
Users are asked to rate their agreement with 3 statements on a 5 point scale, as they relate to their role which they answer on a scale of agree to disagree, these statements are:
- My work gives me a sense of purpose
- My work energizes me
- At work I’m focused and time passes quickly
These three facets of workplace well-being have been specifically chosen based on tests carried out on over a thousand people, with many variations of question combinations. These questions have been determined the absolute best engagement questions by our experts.
Thousands of scientific, peer-reviewed studies have been conducted with the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, which has strong convergent validity with My Mindspace. That means we can draw on the most up-to-date psychological research to provide practical, evidence-based advice based on engagement scores. — Ian MacRae Work Psychologist.

Why is it important for organisations to see if their employees are engaged?
Whether your staff are office based, on the road, on a shop floor etc. keeping track of engagement levels for all employees is no easy task. A platform like My Mindspace gives HR a look at how the company as whole, and people in specific sectors, are feeling about their work in real time. Meaning a HR Director that works in the head office of a large scale retail company, will get regular updates on engagement levels for shop floor staff, warehouse staff, office workers, etc. all on one platform.
This way a dip in engagement either across the organisation, or in one specific sector, can be spotted straight away, and the root of the issue investigated. The issue might be something HR or leaders can take simple steps to resolve, but even if the problem is out of their hands (for example, a global pandemic keeping people at home!) they can still take steps like increasing communication and re-evaluating goals, to boost engagement and set staff back on a more positive track.
What benefit do staff see?
As well as creating a more productive work space, due to increased engagement resulting in better performance, you’re also allowing all of your employees a confidential space in which to express how they are feeling. This means that even if an employee doesn’t feel comfortable taking their issues to their manager, they still have a safe space to let their voice be heard.
My Mindspace then gives people instant feedback on their answers, rather than if they’d filled out a survey which was sent off to be analysed. This instant feedback gives employees tips to become better motivate with their job.
My Mindspace is embedded in continuous performance management, which makes it the ideal tool for ongoing, real-time data about the well-being of your employees. — Ian MacRae Work Psychologist.
